South Luangwa National Park camps - Nsefu
Part of the value of visiting Nsefu is it's sense of history. Nsefu was originally owned by Norman Carr and was one of the first safari camps in Zambia and dates back to 1951. It was bought by Robin Pope Safaris and completely renovated.
The camp consists of six white-washed, light and airy, brick and thatch rondavals. They all have en-suite bathrooms with lovely hot showers. Each rondaval has a river view and verandah. The most obvious criticism is that the rooms are very close together so it can be embarrasingly easy to pop into the wrong house if you are not concentrating.
A waterhole which is regularly frequented by game is close to the small intimate mess area, complete with old black and white photos giving a rather pleasing old fashioned feel and the bar is molded around a large extinct termite mound.
The camp is on a bend of the Luangwa River in the eastern Nsefu sector - a relatively quiet corner of the park. Aside from fantastic views, you can sit watching elephant cross the river from the camp and they regularly wonder through. The wildlife viewing in this area is good and there particularly interesting spots, such as a large stork colony which makes a good place to pop open a thermos and just watch.
Nsefu is used for a stop on walking safaris and combines well with the tented Tena Tena and more centrally located Nkwali.
Includes full board accommodation, scheduled activities, soft drinks, beer, house wines and local spirits, park fees where applicable. Does not include special activities, premium wines, champagne and spirits, gratuities, items of a personal nature.
