Each of our journeys in India is tailor-made to suit your own interests, preferred style of accommodation, pace of travel and budget. Using a private car and driver, the following is a suggestion of how a trip in south India might look if you would like to include some homestays.
Fly to Bangalore and drive to Mysore.
Explore the former kingdom of the Wodeyar Rajas, its flamboyant palace, hilltop temple and the ruins of Tipu Sultan’s ruined city of Sriringapatna while staying at Gitanjali homestay.
Cross the state border into Kerala and relax for a few days at Tranquil Plantation Hideaway. Stay in the family home or their treehouse. Walk trails through the coffee estate, take a dip in the pool and learn about the vanilla market and labour law over dinner with your hosts.
Drive to Calicut and take the train to Cochin. Join fishermen working the Chinese fishing nets, explore the narrow streets of colonial mansions and churches with a guide and rummage for antiques in Jew Town.
Make the short transfer to the Backwaters and your stay at the ancestral home of the Tharakan family at Olavipe where your congenial hosts will keep you entertained with stories of their family history, travels, life in government and the media. Walk to local villages, explore the farm and take a boat on the lake.
Return to Cochin for your international flight home.
We organise tailor made trips to India and would be happy to talk through more ideas, when and where to go. Contact us for more information or to book your trip to India.
