Big game safari on the Lower Zambezi

Chongwe River Camp is built on the confluence of the main Zambezi River and the Chongwe River just outside the main park.  The river bank here is lined with large mature yellow-fever acacia trees, which provide deep natural shade for the tents, and, at certain times of year, a valuable food source for the Lower Zambezi's numerous elephant that wander through the camp, hoovering up the seed pods. The Lower Zambezi has become slightly synonymous with luxury and is well served by a number of very indulgent camps. Ol Mondoro is a welcome reality check and brings the focus of the safari experience back to the bush. Still very much a simple bushcamp, the four reed and thatch rooms manage to make the most of being part of the bush while remaining comfortable and convenient. That wonderful invention, the day-bed, is present on every verandah and is the best spot to while away siesta time.
