Vibrant tends to be one of those words that gets bandied around quite a bit, but it’s fair to say that it’s a term that applies in spades to the central market square of Marrakech’s Medina Quarter, Jemaa el-Fnaa. A stroll through the square in the dusk is an assault on the senses, with stalls selling everything from orange juice to snails and goats brains. Meanwhile crowds (locals, not tourists) gather round to watch magicians, and listen to Berber story tellers. In many ways this is a surprise left unexplained, but certainly one worth having.
