Best places for walking in Botswana
In Botswana, there’s walking and then there’s walking. In the National Parks (i.e. Chobe National Park, Moremi Game Reserve), it is generally not possible to walk. However, many camps, especially in the Delta, occupy land within private concessions where walking is permitted. Within these areas, walking may depend on the levels of the flood water, but generally it will be possible to have a leg-stretch if not a marathon hike.
However, there are one or two camps that specialise in walking in earnest. For example, Footsteps offers walking and dugout trips into the Delta with the option of overnight fly camping, and Delta Camp offers only non-motorised activities. Deception Valley, Edo’s Camp, San Camp and Camp Kalahari all offer walks with the San Bushmen which adds an unexpected and fascinating dimension to the inhospitable surroundings of the Kalahari.
