Family - Family Safaris
One of the greatest things you can do as a family is to scoop everyone up and take them on safari. Its a fact. We've brought up our own kids in Africa, we've guided numerous family safaris over the years and there is just no doubt that its a brilliant way of having fun together and in some cases rediscovering those kids that you may feel have been 'lost' to facebook, nintendo or if they're older perhaps the pub!
Take a look at a searchable list of the best family safaris across Africa
In our experience the most critical elements to a successful family safari include things such as flexibility, an inspiring and patient guide, plenty of activities, a private car and guide, ideally a private house or private camp. And of course safety, meticulous planning and dependable backup.
There are some excellent deals available for families at the moment so you might like to look at our late offers section for details (or give us a call)
There's much conjecture about what's the right age to take your children on safari and of course much of this will be decided by the camps you'd like to visit (many camps don't accept children below a certain age).
However, many people, ourselves included, have travelled with very small children (as young as 3) on safari. This is in truth rather pointless for the child, but certainly by the age of 6 to 8, the right children are more than ready to be captivated by the experience.
Here are just some of the options we think you should consider for a family safari:
In Tanzania:
The Serengeti Wilderness Mobile exploring Serengeti Loliondo and Serengeti and surrounding areas | Kiba Point or Beho Beho in the Selous North | Light Mobile Camping off the beaten track in Northern Tanzania |
In Kenya:
Walking with Camels from Lewa Wilderness on Lewa | Sarara in the Matthews Range | Sabuk or Ol Malo on the Laikipia Plateau | The Koija Starbeds from Loisaba | Kicheche Mara Camp in the Masai Mara | Conservation projects from Ol Pejeta Bush Camp | Mucking around on Sosian Ranch |
In Zambia:
Private safari houses like Luangwa Safari House in Luangwa Valley | Chongwe River House in the Lower Zambezi | Tangala House at Tongabezi near Victoria Falls and Livingstone or, with children of 12yrs + any of the small (6 bed) walking safari camps within South Luangwa.
Indian Ocean:
Manda Bay | Munira Island Camp or Kiwayu Safari Village on the Kenyan Coast | Sandarusi House on Tiwi Beach | Private Houses on Lamu Island | Shooting Star or Blue Bay on Zanzbar | Quilalea Island off the Northern Mozambique Coast

At Natural High, we've all lived and worked in Africa, so our knowledge is born of
