Light Mobile Camping in The Serengeti
This little camp isn't everybody's cup of tea. In that respect it's rather like Marmite (if the mixed metaphor isnt too confusing), because those who like this kind of thing will love it.
If you're happy to strip away the frills and concentrate on the ingredients that really matter, this is a really serious option for you to consider. Best of all there really is a major saving in price for this camp, which suits these rather straightened times we're living in. If this all sounds a bit too spartan, and you don't like the idea of helping to put up your tent, then you might be on the wrong page, in which case try something like the Serengeti Wilderness Mobile or Nduara Loliondo. To help you decide if it's for you, we've put up a couple of videos of the camp which you might like to look at.
As the name suggests, the Light Mobile Camp is intentionally basic. Basic means light, light means mobile. Mobile means access to the wildest areas. But it's still not the sort of experience that springs to mind for most of us when you mention the word camping. The tents are large Eureka tents that take 2 people, so unless you try to swing one of the larger African cats in there, you shouldn't be wanting for space.
Now the really important thing here is that you consider this for the right reasons. If you don't like the idea of short drop latrines, then this is a non starter (a toilet seat on legs over a hole in the ground). If you don't like the idea of bucket showers - this probably isnt for you. Meals are alfresco - there's no dining room, instead, at night, you eat out under the stars.
However, if such things are exciting to you (as they are to me) instead of alarming, then this is probably your dream come true. On these trips you head off with a private vehicle and guide into the wilder parts of Northern Tanzania - away from the crowds that gather in the busy areas where the large impersonal lodges are to be found.
If you're looking for ways of saving money, but dont want to compromise on real quality of game viewing and guiding then give us a call or drop us an email and we'll send you a sample itinerary for a safari using one of these camps.
As a rough indication, for a group of 4 of you, the price per person based on a 10 day safari would start at roughly £1995. A safari like this offers game drives and some superb walks in and around Tarangire, the southern end of Lake Manyara, The Ngorongoro Crater and Highlands, the Serengeti and the Rift Valley at Lake Natron.
