On the wing

Simply due to the nature of Africa - rather large, pretty inaccessible and with relatively few roads - getting from one place to another often requires a flight in a small aircraft.  These range from tiny four-seater Cessna 182s to the larger Caravans, Twin Otters and the like.  Rather than just being a way to get from A to B, flying in these circumstances is always a real adventure; an integral part of the safari.

In Botswana, pretty much the only way to get around the Okavango Delta is by air.  You can see Victoria Falls from above on the "Flight of Angels", and in one camp in the South Luangwa, you can do your game viewing from a micro-light.  For a breathtaking and exhilirating ride, check out northern Kenya from a helicopter.  Hot air ballooning in the Maasai Mara (followed by a champagne breakfast on the plains) has long been a highlight.

In some places, this element has been taken a step further; actual flying safaris.  Notable examples include the four day flying safari up the Skeleton Coast in Namibia with the Schoeman brothers, and Colin Bristow's southern Africa flying safaris that may stretch from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean.

Regardless of how you take to the skies, it will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression of this amazing continent.  If you just can't wait to get out there, give us a call to find out more.
