Less contemporary style, more informal comfort, but critically - in the quiet, western part of the park.

Muchenje is one of the few properties actually inside the Chobe National Park and it's more remote location on the western side means that you'll probably enjoy the best of Chobe without necessarily having to share.

The stunning view from an elevated position is a refreshing change from the normal riverfront location of most of the Chobe lodges and the camp also has a more rustic, informal air which sets it apart from the more hotel-like properties found nearer Kasane.

The cottages are comfortably furnished and private and there is a pool built around natural rocks where you can relax during the hotter parts of the day. During the mornings and evenings game drives, after-dinner night drives, walking and river cruises are the main activities and although most of the drives take place along the river the camp will take you off to explore the more rugged parts of the park on request.

Chobe is well known for its large herds of elephant and prides of lion often seen loitering along the river banks and there are also good numbers of large herbivores particularly red lechwe. Owner run and personal, Muchenje gives those more eager to escape the tourist circuit a chance to have a more leisurely experience of Chobe.

Chobe

Chobe National Park covers 10,566km2 and is renowned for its high game concentration. Encompassing four distinct eco-systems, the park's diversity means that it is home to a wide variety of birds, animals and plantilife. Serondela, in the extreme north-east of the park is made up of lush plains and forest thickets while Savuti Marsh and the Linyanti Swamps are an important source of water to the west and north-west respectively. Botswana

Botswana safaris offer dramatic extremes.  On the one hand, the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti and Chobe River systems, on the other, the beautiful other-worldly expanse of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert.  The variety of habitats makes for varied animal and birdlife as well as beautiful scenery.   Strict controls mean that Botswana safari camps and lodges are generally small, and due to the tricky logistics of operating in a delta or a desert, safaris in Botswana are seldom cheap.  There are however many excellent options to consider.  Top of the list in our opinion are some of Botswana's mobile safari camps, these come in a couple of basic shapes, both of which are aimed at giving you a private experience using private campsites in quiet remote locations.  We use luxury moble camps and light mobile camps to great effect here and this is certainly something to consider if you're looking for great value and a unique experience.
