Simple tented camp within a good game area

Lebala (meaning "wide open spaces" in Setswana) is a more traditional style, understated safari camp of large khaki-green tents set on teak platforms. Surrounded by endless grass plains broken by copses of palm and hardwood trees, the camp is uncomplicated and comfortable without being basic.

Wildlife frequently sighted within this private concession include elephant, lechwe, wild dog, lion, cheetah and hyena plus a wide variety of plains game and wetland species. Night drives in the area are a highlight and animals often seen include the Selous mongoose, spotted genet, aardwolf and sometimes the elusive leopard. For bird-lovers, the pennant winged nightjar (with impossibly long plumes streaming from the end of it's wings) is a regular in this part of the country.

It is worth noting that children are accommodated at Lebala on full adult rates, and families would be required to take a private vehicle at an extra cost.

Linyanti Kwando

A vast concession of 232,000ha on the northern border of Botswana, bordered on the east by the Kwando river and to the south by the Selinda Concession. Kwando is an exclusive concession with only two small camps. 80km of permanent river frontage offers refuge to abundant hippo and crocodile while the open flood plains to the west are home to a wide variety of plains game, large numbers of lion, wild dog, hyena and cheetah. Sitatunga and lechwe inhabit the reedbeds and there are also over 300 species of bird. The advantage of visiting Kwando is the exclusivity it offers and the flexibility that is the watchword of the two camps in this area. Read more?

Botswana

Safaris in Botswana offer dramatic extremes.  One the one hand, the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti/Chobe River systems, on the other, the beautiful other-worldly expanse of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert.  The variety of habitats makes for varied animal and birdlife as well as beautiful scenery.   Strict controls mean that Botswana safari camps and lodges are generally small, and due to the tricky logistics of operating in a delta or a desert, a safari here is seldom cheap, and it's important to know where to go if you are looking for that authentic safari experience.
