At 135,000ha (300,000acres), the Reserve straddles the Selinda Spillway that connects the watersystem of the Linyanti and Kwando rivers to the Okavango Delta. The lush floodplains attract a wide variety of wildlife that come for grazing and water.  Since the area is devoid of contours, the Spillway can run in both directions and has been known to run in both simultaneously, depending on water levels at either end.

Waterways and floodplains blend into open grassland dotted with palm trees and woodland. Birdlife is good herewith both wetland and savannah species to be seen and wildlife too is fairly consistant all year round although in the dry winter months, numbers swell as game moves in from the dryer plains to graze. The lions here have acquired a taste for hippo and kills have now become a fairly regular thing, which you may be lucky enough to see. There are also resident leopard, wild dog and cheetah in addition to plenty of plains game.
