A luxury tented lodge with great bird and animal life on the floodplains.

Selinda's nine tented rooms hide in an isolated forested grove overlooking the floodplains of the Selinda Spillway. Each room rests on a raised wooden platform and is shaded by a dense thatch roof and has a private viewing deck. The camp is furnished in an opulent, yet traditional safari style with antiques from around Africa for that authentic feel. A special feature of the rooms is the enormous stone bathtub which you might be tempted not to leave at all during your stay here.

A good deal of thought and attention to detail has been invested in this camp; from the wine cellar to the photo/art gallery, star deck for nightime dining and traditional camp fire - a perfect venue for evening story-telling.

However, there is plenty to see outside of the camp; the highlights being the large populations of plains game, cheetah, wild dog, lion and elephant. The lion in this area have apparently developed a unique taste for hippo... Night drives are also special here where there is the opportunity to see some of the more seldom seen wild cats, porcupine, spring hare, hyena and leopard if you're lucky. Selinda goes nicely with one of the more water-based Delta camps.

Linyanti Selinda

At 135,000ha (300,000acres), the Reserve straddles the Selinda Spillway that connects the watersystem of the Linyanti and Kwando rivers to the Okavango Delta. The lush floodplains attract a wide variety of wildlife that come for grazing and water.  Since the area is devoid of contours, the Spillway can run in both directions and has been known to run in both simultaneously, depending on water levels at either end. Botswana

Safaris in Botswana offer dramatic extremes.  One the one hand, the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti/Chobe River systems, on the other, the beautiful other-worldly expanse of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert.  The variety of habitats makes for varied animal and birdlife as well as beautiful scenery.   Strict controls mean that Botswana safari camps and lodges are generally small, and due to the tricky logistics of operating in a delta or a desert, a safari here is seldom cheap, and it's important to know where to go if you are looking for that authentic safari experience.
