Unbelievable luxury in a vast private concession, all-round great game viewing, and a novel hide with water at eye-level. Definitely not your back-to-basics experience.

Like many of the camps in the Delta, King's Pool is raised on a series of wooden decks overlooking the striking lagoon and green flood-plain beyond.

The initial reaction to one of King's Pool's suites is : "how many people am I sharing this with?". Vast and stylishly decorated with the added bonus of a private sun-deck and small plunge pool, the suites are the epitome of luxury in the bush. As if one shower wasn't enough, each en-suite bathroom is equipped with three: his and hers inside and an additional "star-gazer's" shower outside.

The small sala or little thatched, open-sided rondavel with a comfy day-bed looks over the game-rich landscape and provides a fabulous siesta spot during the heat of the day.

The wildlife here also lives up to the high standards of the camp with large herds of elephant, buffalo and plains game and regular sightings of the big cats, wild dog and a multitude of varied birdlife. A great feature of the camp are the two hides, one at water level, from which you can see game unbelievably close. The full range of activities are on offer here, though boating depends on water levels. Game and night drives are rewarding although it may be tough to tear yourself away from that gorgeous room...

Linyanti

The Linyanti Wildlife Reserve is a private concession on the western boundary of the Chobe National Park, with the Linyanti River to the north, on the border with Namibia's Caprivi Strip.  Consisting of 125,000 hectares of flood plaines, marshes, grassland and forests, the Linyanti Reserves plays home to a large variety of wildlife, particularly large populations of elephant which migrate toward the lush plains of the river in the dry winter months (May - June) and remain until the rains in November or December. Botswana

Safaris in Botswana offer dramatic extremes.  One the one hand, the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti/Chobe River systems, on the other, the beautiful other-worldly expanse of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert.  The variety of habitats makes for varied animal and birdlife as well as beautiful scenery.   Strict controls mean that Botswana safari camps and lodges are generally small, and due to the tricky logistics of operating in a delta or a desert, a safari here is seldom cheap, and it's important to know where to go if you are looking for that authentic safari experience.
