The Panhandle is the little stem on the map, where the Kavango River starts to broaden out as it enters Botswana, and spread into the network of channels, lagoons and islands which is typical Delta territory. While possibly not as prolific a wildlife area, the birding and fishing are excellent here, and it is quieter as far as other lodges and tourists are concerned. It's more accessible by road than the rest of the Delta and is often included in land-based itineraries, but less so on flying safaris as it is that much further from Maun.
