An authentic safari experience in a game rich area

Upon discovering Khwai Tented Camp, we breathed a great sigh of relief; authentic safari does live on in Botswana afterall!  The first decade of the 21st Century has seen a country-wide upgrade from simple bush camps to opulent affairs which can be quite tricky to distinguish between.  Not to be misleading, these are mostly great camps with very high standards, and offer an excellent wildlife experience....but it just isn't safari as we knew it.

Located on a community concession bordering the northern Moremi Reserve, Khwai has managed to walk that tricky line between being an intimate bush experience without being too intimate with the uncomfy aspects of the bush.  Just four large walk-in Meru-style tents are equipped with twin beds made up with nice linen and there is an en-suite bathroom with flush loo (hoorah!) and an open-air bucket shower.  Everything is done with an understated style and attention to detail, including the food.

Its location means that you can enjoy activities not normally available within the reserve itself, such as walking and nightdrives in addition to game drives.  You can also get off the road in the event you see an exciting beasty in the distance.  However, you don't need to forego the Moremi experience; from Khwai you can go for a day trip and boating in the reserve or for some added adventure, fly-camp out there for a night which is really worth doing.  By being located outside the reserve, there is no compromise at all in terms of wildlife numbers or variety.  There is also the rare opportunity to visit the local village where you can experience real Delta life from the perspective of the Beyei or "river bushmen".
