Unique experience riding and walking with habituated elephants with luxury on tap

Abu's camp is in a private concession bordering Moremi Game Reserve on the edge of the permanent Delta.    It stands out within the Botswana Delta as being quite an experience. First, if you are looking for the best of the best in accommodation, you will find it here. Abu's tents are lushly decorated with rich wooden furniture in early safari style with expensive linen and gleaming wooden floors. The en-suite bathroom boasts a large stand-alone tub and shower and there is a private viewing deck from which to take in views of the lagoon.

The accommodation, sumptious though it is, pales in comparison to the experience that you can enjoy amongst the camp's habituated herd of elephants.  It probably goes without saying that the camp and all it has to offer goes for a pretty hefty whack, so be prepared to pay through the trunk for this unique experience.

Although many people may shy away from the idea of interacting with "tame" elephants and pour scorn on the exploitation of wild animals for entertainment, the reality is that this is a once in a lifetime experience and the elephants are well cared for and treated with kindness and respect, moving as they do in their own small herd with their keepers.

Aside from the incredible idea of being able to see and touch such a large and potentially fearsome animal up close, imagine how different it is to interact with other wildlife from the back of an elephant. Abu Camp also offers the full range of activities available here in the Delta and the wildlife is characteristically superb so a stay here will make for a memorable experience, no matter where your interest lies.

Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is the largest inland Delta in the world and is incomparable to any other game destination in Africa.  A vast spread of channels, lagoons, forests and reed islands spreads across northern Botswana and disappears into the sands of the Kalahari.  As you can imagine, birdlife is amazing here and game viewing too is very special; not only because of the variety and number of animals but also because you can do a great deal by boat, giving a totally different perspective to the traditional bumpy, dusty game drives. Botswana

Safaris in Botswana offer dramatic extremes.  One the one hand, the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti/Chobe River systems, on the other, the beautiful other-worldly expanse of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert.  The variety of habitats makes for varied animal and birdlife as well as beautiful scenery.   Strict controls mean that Botswana safari camps and lodges are generally small, and due to the tricky logistics of operating in a delta or a desert, a safari here is seldom cheap, and it's important to know where to go if you are looking for that authentic safari experience.
