A good game area with game viewing by vehicle, dug-out mokoro and on foot

Baine's is on a 260,000 acre private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, on the south-eastern edge of the Delta.

It is a very small permanent lodge on the south-eastern edge of the Delta. Raised on wooden platforms, each one of only five bandas has a private deck overlooking the surrounding marsh area that is seasonally flooded, though carries water for most of the year.

One of the features that sets this camp apart, aside from it's small size, are the mobile four-poster beds that can be wheeled onto the deck for a night spent under the starry sky listening to the night noises. The camp is remote and exclusive and has all the trimmings; swimming pool, excellent food, in-room minibar and an large deck where you can sit peacefully and watch the bird and animal life go about it's business.

In addition to the superb game drives available in this area, it is also possible to venture out in either motor boats or dug-out mokoros or on foot in search of wildlife. An additional activity offered at Baine's Camp, at an extra cost, is a morning walking with a small family of semi-habituated elephants ending with a picnic in the bush.

Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is the largest inland Delta in the world and is incomparable to any other game destination in Africa.  A vast spread of channels, lagoons, forests and reed islands spreads across northern Botswana and disappears into the sands of the Kalahari.  As you can imagine, birdlife is amazing here and game viewing too is very special; not only because of the variety and number of animals but also because you can do a great deal by boat, giving a totally different perspective to the traditional bumpy, dusty game drives. Botswana

Safaris in Botswana offer dramatic extremes.  One the one hand, the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti/Chobe River systems, on the other, the beautiful other-worldly expanse of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert.  The variety of habitats makes for varied animal and birdlife as well as beautiful scenery.   Strict controls mean that Botswana safari camps and lodges are generally small, and due to the tricky logistics of operating in a delta or a desert, a safari here is seldom cheap, and it's important to know where to go if you are looking for that authentic safari experience.
