A simple but attractive lodge in a nice area, though the big cats may be illusive during some seasons

Nxabega (meaning "Place of the Giraffe") is a simple though elegant camp on the southern edge of the Delta.

Enjoying permanent water all year round, activities here include both daytime and early evening drives, motor boating and trips out in dug-out mokoros.  Wildlife can be a little unpredictable in this area; you'll always see a good number of herbivores and plenty of birds, though the big cats may be a little more evasive.

The staff are friendly and hospitable and food, cooked by the local Setswana chef is tasty and fresh. The camp is not as luxurious as some of the other Delta camps and the tents are smaller but comfortable and well decorated in muted hues.  The views from the lodge are lovely and the efforts to accommodate personal preferences are a nice touch.

Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is the largest inland Delta in the world and is incomparable to any other game destination in Africa.  A vast spread of channels, lagoons, forests and reed islands spreads across northern Botswana and disappears into the sands of the Kalahari.  As you can imagine, birdlife is amazing here and game viewing too is very special; not only because of the variety and number of animals but also because you can do a great deal by boat, giving a totally different perspective to the traditional bumpy, dusty game drives. Botswana

Safaris in Botswana offer dramatic extremes.  One the one hand, the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti/Chobe River systems, on the other, the beautiful other-worldly expanse of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert.  The variety of habitats makes for varied animal and birdlife as well as beautiful scenery.   Strict controls mean that Botswana safari camps and lodges are generally small, and due to the tricky logistics of operating in a delta or a desert, a safari here is seldom cheap, and it's important to know where to go if you are looking for that authentic safari experience.
