A family friendly lodge in a good game area
Okuti is on the banks of the Maunachira River in the north of the Moremi Reserve and is a refreshing change from the rather carbon copy style of many a Delta camp consisting of tented rooms on raised decking.
Okuti instead has uniquely designed stone and reed chalets set low to the ground and a large open-sided sitting and dining room. Since the camp is within the reserve, activities are mainly by motor-boat and open game drive vehicle. The up-side of Okuti is that it is very much a child-friendly camp (well, children over 7yrs old in any case) and provides two family units which have two bedrooms with a shared bathroom.
Birding is particularly good here though you can be sure of seeing a wide variety of wildlife year round including elephant, lion, buffalo and other big mammals. The camp is informal and relaxed, uncomplicated and ideal for those who are not in search of out-and-out luxury but comfort in the bush.

The Okavango Delta is the largest inland Delta in the world and is incomparable to any other game destination in Africa. A vast spread of channels, lagoons, forests and reed islands spreads across northern Botswana and disappears into the sands of the Kalahari. As you can imagine, birdlife is amazing here and game viewing too is very special; not only because of the variety and number of animals but also because you can do a great deal by boat, giving a totally different perspective to the traditional bumpy, dusty game drives. Botswana safaris offer dramatic extremes. On the one hand, the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti and Chobe River systems, on the other, the beautiful other-worldly expanse of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert. The variety of habitats makes for varied animal and birdlife as well as beautiful scenery. Strict controls mean that Botswana safari camps and lodges are generally small, and due to the tricky logistics of operating in a delta or a desert, safaris in Botswana are seldom cheap. There are however many excellent options to consider. Top of the list in our opinion are some of Botswana's mobile safari camps, these come in a couple of basic shapes, both of which are aimed at giving you a private experience using private campsites in quiet remote locations. We use luxury moble camps and light mobile camps to great effect here and this is certainly something to consider if you're looking for great value and a unique experience. Read more?
