Vumbura Plains consists of two small separate camps Vumbura Plains and {Little Vumbura}, both of which are linked by wooden walkways. They break away from the traditional style tented camp widely seen in the Delta. The main structures still rest on raised decks but the look is much more minimalist with a great deal of pale wood, stark light fittings and billowing fabric panels. Split levels have been used to effectively break up the large, clean spaces and the overall effect is refreshing. Each room has it's own plunge pool, adding an indulgent touch.
The camp lies in a forested area overlooking a wide flood plain and this location affords it the best of the Delta and the savannah in one. Game and birdlife is therefore richly varied and while most of the activities are land-based, there is the opportunity to explore by motor-boat or mokoro. The camp is considered a luxury or 'premier' camp and as such is aimed at the exclusive market so it is slightly disconcerting to know that there is a second camp right on the doorstep however, the surrounding conservancy is substantial and with only one other camp in 100,000ha, feeling like you have the place to yourself does not present too much of a challenge.

The Okavango Delta is the largest inland Delta in the world and is incomparable to any other game destination in Africa. A vast spread of channels, lagoons, forests and reed islands spreads across northern Botswana and disappears into the sands of the Kalahari. As you can imagine, birdlife is amazing here and game viewing too is very special; not only because of the variety and number of animals but also because you can do a great deal by boat, giving a totally different perspective to the traditional bumpy, dusty game drives. One the one hand, the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti/Chobe River systems, on the other, the beautiful other-worldly expanse of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert. The variety of habitats makes for varied animal and birdlife as well as beautiful scenery. Strict controls mean that Botswana safari camps and lodges are generally small, and due to the tricky logistics of operating in a delta or a desert, a safari here is seldom cheap, and it's important to know where to go if you are looking for that authentic safari experience.
