Xaranna is another extremely, almost laugh-out-loud-with-sheer-astonishment-type luxurious "tented" camp. It's tented status is apparent only in the odd scrap of canvas, but otherwise, the rooms are striking beyond belief. The interiors would not look out of place in the type of boutique hang-out frequented by it-people in trendy parts of London. The nine suites are built on stilts with huge wooden platforms and big squashy sofas and chairs in blazing greens and purples in which to look out over the Okavango. Each have four poster beds in blond wood and huge bathrooms with deep baths or steaming hot showers.
This is very much a waterbased camp and in the height of the season you can only get to the camp by boat. However, game drives and walks are on offer and the game will match up to any other area in the Delta, so you will not be disappointed.
Again, like many of the Botswana lodges the price tag is high reflecting the extreme comfort of this wilderness camp.

The Okavango Delta is the largest inland Delta in the world and is incomparable to any other game destination in Africa. A vast spread of channels, lagoons, forests and reed islands spreads across northern Botswana and disappears into the sands of the Kalahari. As you can imagine, birdlife is amazing here and game viewing too is very special; not only because of the variety and number of animals but also because you can do a great deal by boat, giving a totally different perspective to the traditional bumpy, dusty game drives. Botswana safaris offer dramatic extremes. On the one hand, the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti and Chobe River systems, on the other, the beautiful other-worldly expanse of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the Kalahari Desert. The variety of habitats makes for varied animal and birdlife as well as beautiful scenery. Strict controls mean that Botswana safari camps and lodges are generally small, and due to the tricky logistics of operating in a delta or a desert, safaris in Botswana are seldom cheap. There are however many excellent options to consider.
