Dera Mandawa combines the best of homestay hospitality with the comforts of a hotel. The property has been in the family for five generations over 125 years and although some of the grounds were sold off many years ago, the buildings have been recently converted and extended to provide seven guest suites. Each room is different but has lots of character and excellent modern amenities that the owner has added to and improved at the suggestion of guests.
Fortunately all the homely touches are still here and you are welcome to read the local newspaper on the verandah or browse the collection of books in the family sitting room. The utterly charming owner is full of fascinating stories and interesting information, while the gentle and obliging staff will arrange ‘bed tea’ with a morning wake up call, or a refreshing drink and snack when you return from sight seeing.
If you are interested in local life, don’t refuse the invitation into the back yard to see how food is cooked on the bio stove fuelled by dung from the family cow. Other environmental initiatives include rainwater harvesting, solar power and complimentary purified drinking water to reduce the use of plastic bottles.
