The Funzi Keys

Funzi Keys stretches along a white beach on an island off the south Kenya coast. The first impression of the property is the space. Each room is huge, and both the garden and sea-front rooms have large four-poster beds, soft cushions and a big cool box full of drinks which negates the need for a long trek to the bar.

The sea-front rooms also have a very indulgent jacuzzi/bath. A real bonus in the rooms is the large mosquito netted windows which means that you can relax and enjoy the room in the evening without having to dive under the mosquito net. The swimming pool is also enormous which comes as a relief at low tide where there isn't much sea or beach in front of the lodge.

There are clean white sand banks to swim off at low tide which can be reached by boat. The menu at Funzi is al a carte and very extensive with a multitude of different influences, so something for everyone, and the quality of the food is unsurpassed. Alex and Claudia Toriani own Funzi and host it themselves and are very pleasant and easy-going hosts. Funzi is a good honeymoon spot and there are a couple of rooms that are built with families in mind. You should note that road transfers from the nearest schedule airport are quite a distance.
