Sprawling beach lodge, but without being too big - popular with families

Guide Price: From: $380 To: $485

Kinondo Kwetu is a smallish relaxed beach lodge on the quiet, almost secluded, Galu Beach on Kenya's southern Coast. It strikes a welcome balance between the laid back and the organised and allows you to set your own schedule and pace.

It can accomodate up to 38 guests but you would hardly know that, such is the rather adhoc layout of the place. Most of the rooms and cottages are different in some way, almost all have sea views and there are endless nooks and crannies in which to hide away. The fact that there are two swimming pools gives you about the most difficult decision of the day.

The food is good, the service friendly and all in all we love the tone this whole place adopts. There is a good dive centre from which all manner of diving, snorkeling, sailing & fishing trips can be arranged. Diani Beach is just to the north which gives easy access to the shops and restaurants in that area, without having to cope with the considerably more hectic beach life at Diani.

Galu Beach

Galu Beach lies at the southern end of Diani Beach on Kenya south coast, tranquil by comparison with considerably less action. A great mix of endless white beaches interspersed with stunning rock pools teeming with life, Galu beach has earned a reputation as a Kenyan "Maldives". This is classified as a ‘Kaya’ area (protected by the National Museum) due to its surrounding holy forests and sacred land to which access is available for those who can tear themselves away from the waters edge to walk or bike through the network of trails that link the numerous small villages and homesteads. Kenya

Kenya is the most established safari country, and consequently you have to step a little off the conventional route to find real wilderness, but it’s certainly there.  Kenya also has much going for it as a family destination, and also a good number of very individual safari camps and lodges with a personal approach that makes your experience very special.  Kenya also has a particularly diverse ecology which ranges from snowy mountains to true desert, rolling grassy plains filled with wildlife to craggy scrub intersected with dry riverbeds, sparkling beaches and volcanic ranges.
