Nakuru town itself is typical of many other medium sized Kenyan towns; which is to say that it is messy, noisy, hectic and full of kamakazi drivers.

The main attraction of this area is the Lake which is virtually annexed to the town and it quite incredible to see such diversity or wildlife living right next door. Lake Nakuru is one of the smallest parks in Kenya, protecting a soda lake which in an important feeding ground for both lesser and greater flamingoes.

The Lake is full of birdlife including large numbers of pelicans which you can see at close quarters as they make ungainly landings in the water or bask in the sun. The other animals that Nakuru is well known for are primarily white and black rhino and leopard. A full day in the park is enough to see pretty much everything (although leopard is by no means guaranteed, they are much more easily spotted here than elsewhere). Game viewing is good here year round as the animals do not migrate.
