Kerry Glen is from an old Kenya family, many of whom have strong links to the bush. A professional safari guide herself, Kerry has always chosen the more remote parts of the country to work in and her newly formed company, with Canadian/Kenyan husband Jamie Christian, is no different. Kerry and Jamie base themselves on their own ranch, Tumaren, from which they do walks with their Samburu team using camels to carry the camp equipment and supplies. The Samburu guides are experienced and professional and also lead and host groups with aplomb. Especially warm and charismatic, the Samburu are great at entertaining and full of knowledge about their environment.
Safaris are entirely tailor-made to suit the requirements of their guests, both in number of days to kilometres walked per day, degree of comfort and areas visited. A normal day might consist of a good healthy breakfast of muesli, fruit and yogurt or eggs and bacon followed by an 8-12km walk in the morning while the Samburu team pack and move the camp, to arrive at lunch time and enjoy a delicious meal of salad, cheese and cold meat. The afternoon might be spent bird-watching, swimming or fishing in the river and a sundowner overlooking a view, followed by a hot shower in camp and a three course dinner around the campfire.
Tents are comfortably equipped with a camp-bed or mattress on the floor. The style is comfortable yet simple and Kerry and Jamie are easy, relaxed hosts who simply love what they do. They are meticulous organisers but still manage to ensure that trips have that spontaneous and effortless quality which makes them so enjoyable. This is a must for people who enjoy being outdoors, want to get completely off the well-trodden trail and don't mind roughing it a little.

Kenya is the most established safari country, and consequently you have to step a little off the conventional route to find real wilderness, but it’s certainly there.
