Kikapu Cottages are a bit of a novelty on this part of the Kenyan coast, being of the 'Robinson Crusoe' type-caste rather than a big resort hotel. Tucked away in the lush beach-side vegetation with a beautiful view over blue lagoon, they afforded visitors a quiet, private retreat.

Nowadays the weather and need for constant maintenance means that they have rather lost their carefree, elegant look. Combined with an influx of ugly pastel-coloured apartments and large hotels in this area of Watamu, this hidden bay is becoming a little less of a private paradise and so while it is still nice to come and swim or walk here, it is not quite the idyllic spot it once was.

Kenya

Kenya is the most established safari country, and consequently you have to step a little off the conventional route to find real wilderness, but it’s certainly there.  Kenya also has much going for it as a family destination, and also a good number of very individual safari camps and lodges with a personal approach that makes your experience very special.  Kenya also has a particularly diverse ecology which ranges from snowy mountains to true desert, rolling grassy plains filled with wildlife to craggy scrub intersected with dry riverbeds, sparkling beaches and volcanic ranges.
