Sofitel Fes Palais Jamaï preserves the authenticity of Fez, the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco. This hotel was built in 1879, in the finest Moorish style, and became the residence of the Grand Vizir of Jamaï.

The Palais Jamai, although lacking the intimate charm of a riad in the medina, is equally well located, just steps from the heartbeat of the souk.  It is an ideal choice for a family with younger children who are prepared to forego the serene atmosphere of a riad for a large heated pool and expansive gardens in which the children can run.

There are three restaurants, serving international and French cuisine, a spa, a piano bar, swimming pool and tennis courts.  The gardens are filled with orange and lemon trees and are a lovely place to relax after a day in the medina.

All rooms feature air conditioning (hot/cool), satellite television, minibars, and safe deposit boxes.

Fes

Fes contains an abudance of impressive architecture, but the UNESCO protected old city, Fez el Bali, is more than fine buildings: it’s a medieval city in motion, offering the last chance to witness a 12th century lifestyle other than in a museum. Fez, Meknes, Moulay Idriss and Volubilis are close to the fertile lowlands south of the Rif mountains and the lakes and the cedar forests surrounding Azrou and Ifrane. Read more?

Morocco

Morocco is a country of immense and diverse physical beauty, with some of the most inspiring areas of pristine wilderness in Africa. It's also superb value and just a few short hours flight from the UK.  From the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas to its wave-strafed Atlantic coastline and on south to the billowing, seemingly endless sand dunes that run away into the Sahara Desert.  For a country so close to Europe it’s exhilarating to find such an intact culture and epic North African landscape with real contrast to anything European at almost every turn. Leave Marrakesh and head south and in less than an hour you’re climbing into the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains.  This is magnificent trekking country where you can thread your way among small Berber villages, supported by mule trains, either on foot or on horseback, supported with a light tented campRead more?
