A contemporary take on plantation living - a stylish base for exploring Etosha
The Outpost is one of a collection of three lodges under the Mushara banner. Located 14km from the von Lindquist Gate of Etosha National Park, the lodge is designed as a sort of contemporary plantation house. The signature wraparound verandah (a must-have in all tropical ranch houses), provides elegant and shady areas for dining and just lounging about. Dressed in beige and white, the house is far from the saggy-sofa’d, rather doggy place you’d imagine on your average working ranch, and rather the epitome of stylish bush-cool.
Around the surrounding bush that borders the lodge’s green lawns, lie eight wood and canvas rooms. The rooms are private (but possibly could have been a bit bigger) with a cool deck for relaxing and a particularly funky shower with glass walls onto the bush...perhaps not for the shy amongst us but fun nonetheless. We do rather think it spoils the "bush" feel but suppose that it might come in handy in winter!
The Outpost is elegant and rather unique and will no doubt appeal to those that enjoy flicking through interiors magazines. A lot of thought has been put into it and it represents pretty good value for the area.
In contrast to the other Mushara properties, the Outpost offers a fully inclusive rate (drinks and activities thrown in) as well as a dinner bed and breakfast option. Like the other Mushara lodges, it is a good choice if you are driving yourself.

A contemporary take on plantation living - a stylish base for exploring Etosha
The Etosha National Park lies to the north of the country and covers a whopping 22,000km². The actual Pan, formerly an ancient lake, dominates the eastern side of the park at over 100km wide. Standing on the edge, this immense dry white crust dances with mirages in the heat and you can see the curvature of the earth. Read more?

A journey through Namibia is all about daily surprises; the impossible number of stars, the expanse of views over desert mountains, the improbable salmon-pink of sand-dunes at sunrise, the ingenuity of small creatures adapted to the harsh environment, the ochre and leather dress of the Himba and petticoated dresses of the Herero, the first taste of ostrich biltong and the excellent seafood.
