While the other two Onguma properties are definitely stylish and beautifully put together, Treetops is the one that gets you buzzing with the childish excitement of summer holidays. Perched high up on wooden platforms, the whole caboodle looks like something your Dad might have knocked together from off-cuts. It even has a draw-bridge which is raised at night to secure the network of raised walkways against marauding beasties...how cool is that?!
Once inside, however, it is clear that the camp has been given the same soft touch by the decorator as the other camps. A tasteful lounge and open-kitchen area make the camp intimate, casual and friendly. An open deck looks onto a waterhole where animals come and go all day and night. Each tented room is on its own platform, linked by wooden walkways and all have waterhole views. For those that are a little nervous, it should be mentioned that although there is a loo incorporated into the canvas and thatch room, the shower is outside, but still totally private and nearby.
Being located within the Onguma Reserve, visitors to the camp can enjoy drives both locally and in Etosha National Park. Lion, leopard, elephant and rhino occur in Onguma in addition to other large herbivores and plenty of birds. The other advantage of the Reserve is that it is possible to do nightdrives here too.
The Tree Top Camp is the place to stay if you fancy yourself as a slightly more adventurous type that enjoys a bit of a rustic, simple and casual experience. If you want to step up the luxury ladder, consider both the Onguma Tented Camp or Onguma Plains – The Fort.
