Luderitz is a real pioneer town, well and truly out on a limb on the southern coast of Namibia

Luderitz is a real pioneer town, well and truly out on a limb on the southern coast of Namibia. Originally established as a harbour facility and fishing town, it experienced a boom when diamonds were found at the nearby Kolmanskop (now a ghost town). Subsequently not much has happened in Luderitz itself and it remains a small, quirky and interesting monument to the early 1900s.

The main points of interest here are the buildings, distinctly German and well preserved, the daily guided tours of the diamond settlement of Kolmanskop, and boat trips out to view the dolphins and seals along the rocky coastline.
