Some good game & short walks near camp, in much quieter area of the park

Guide Price: From: $625 To: $950

Manyara Tree Lodge is an exceptional small camp in a secluded location at the southern end of Lake Manyara. It's the only lodge inside {Manyara National Park} and one of the best reasons to visit the park. The key here is that the lavish style and luxury of this place is well complemented by a quiet secluded location that gives a quite unusual opportunity to get under the skin of this rather mis-sold park.

Lake Manyara Tree Lodge stands out head and shoulders above any of the other camps in the Lake Manyara area. It's right at the Southern tip of Lake, well away from most of the traffic and is, in itself, a reason to visit Lake Manyara. Tree Lodge is about 2 1/2 hours from the main gate and the drive is beautiful, taking you through acacia woodland in the north and under the dramatic rift valley that towers above you to the west.

In places the escarpment comes so close to the lake shore that there's barely room for your car to squeeze through. The camp is set up amongst a forest of mahogany trees. Each room is a tree house that fulfils all dreams of tree houses, with fantastic outdoor showers in amongst the leaves, and no end to the level of comfort. This camp is owned by Conscorp who also own the much higher profile Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, but this place has a much more subtle feel to it and a quiet charm that makes it, for our money, the more interesting of the two places.

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara often receives the hard sell - with promises of trees stuffed full of lions or elephants that are personal friends of Saba Douglas-Hamilton, but, while both of these are possible, it's actually somewhere that benefits much more from a quiet contemplative approach for which time, and a visit to the far south of the park is neccessary.
