Mufindi, in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania is best known for it's tea plantations

Mufindi, in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania is best known for it's tea plantations.  It's hilly, lush and green with sections of deep montane forest contrasting with the regular patterns of the tea bushes.

Mufindi is plainly not a wildlife destination (or pretending to be one), although you will see some interesting birdlife here.  It's really not a tourist destination either, which has to be a good starting point.  A few days here staying at Mufindi Highland Fishing Lodge, which belongs to the Foxes who were born and raised between Mufindi and nearby Ruaha, is a relaxing counterpoint to time spent on safari.  You can walk, ride, fish, mountain bike...or just do nothing.  Just remember to bring a sweater or two if you come in the early dry season - it gets cold at night here.
