Access the wilder parts of Ngorongoro, not just the Crater

Guide Price: From: $575 To: $730

This little camp, private, simple in design and unassuming quite simply offers one of the richest safari experiences available. There are few props here; no spas, TVs or archery on offer, and the camp relies on those illusive, but definitive ingredients; superb service and guiding, total privacy and most importantly front row seats at a private wilderness experience startlingly at odds with anything you'll experience in the course of your daily life.

Nomad's Ngorongoro Wilderness Mobile is a private tented camp that moves with you in the middle of one of the best game areas in the world. Without a doubt the most exclusive way to experience the Ngorongoro Highlands at your own pace, whether game driving, on a walking safari or a combination of both. These camps give you real flexibility, allowing you to move every couple of days, and we actually think this is the best way to see Serengeti National Park, Loliondo and the Ngorongoro Crater and Highlands.

Take a week or so and spend a few days in each location, moving at your own pace. The camp is lightweight enough to be mobile, but still very comfortable. The tents are large walk-in ones, the beds are camp beds and the loos are outside instead of being ensuite. Best of all, the camp is private. Just for you. And though you may think this sounds excessive, there is nothing like coming back to your own camp, run by a small professional crew to find hot showers are waiting for you, followed by drinks around the fire and properly good food - a three course meal in the camp's mess tent or better still under the stars - you decide.

Ngorongoro Crater Rim

Unique is a thoroughly overused word, but it really does apply to the Ngorongoro Crater. This is the largest unbroken caldera in the world - and it's full of big wild animals. The difficulty here is remembering that what you're looking at isn't artificial. And this becomes harder when you realise the only thing to rival the animal population in Ngorongoro is the tourist population...and for this you must be prepared.  On a bad day you'll can find yourself persued by minibuses full of camera-toting tourists each time you stop.  It's probably harsh to suggest that you should miss the Crater out altogether on account of the traffic jams, but our advice would be plan to leave wishing you'd stayed longer, rather than the other way round.
