Kwihala is a relatively new tented camp in Ruaha with simple, well designed tents and, being semi permanent, can be moved seasonally maintaining a very light footprint. The camp achieves a great balance between wilderness experience and game viewing on one hand and comfort with a degree of style on the other.

So far we've been impressed by the standards that we've seen there and there's no doubt that its small size is one of its chief attractions. During the dry season, Kwihala is usually located not far from Mbagi, close to (and with views over) the Mwagusi Sand River and within a stone's throw of some of Ruaha's best game viewing areas. The camp is small - it only has 6 tents - so as you'd expect, there's an intimacy that is very appealing.

The tents have been designed well, subtly decorated with soft browns and creams, dotted with their Baobab emblem and there's plenty of space and no shortage of comfort. The bathrooms are all ensuite, with traditional bucket showers, which work very well and provide a pleasing authentic and adventurous feel to your stay. Kwihala is a good option for those who'd like to experience the vitality and exhilaration of a tented camp, but don't want to sacrifice too many of life's comforts. All in all, not a bad mix.

Ruaha was fantastic, partly because it there were very few other vehicles about, so we had viewings of cheetahs, leopards and other animals without any other vehicles around.

S & A H S & C B October 2010

We had the most fabulous time and are still desperately missing the Bush, especially the sounds that one can't possibly explain to others. I had considered taking a little hand recorder with me but decided against the idea on the grounds of weight. I so wish I had done so.

BC Sep 08

We can't begin to tell you how good it all was. We had everything. First hand witnesses to a lion kill on our first morning (and we were the only vehicle to see it happen!). saw Wild Dogs on three occasions; two separate leopards and a family group of four cheetah that hunted (but failed) while we were watching them.
