Game drives within central Serengeti, some limited walking

Guide Price: From: $325 To: $525

Mbuzi Mawe is the latest edition of the Serena chain of Hotels and Lodges. The camp is set amongst granite outcrops on top of a hill within the epicentre of the Serengeti in the Seronera area; the centre of the park, which houses the majority of research staff and the park's main headquarters and also has the primary airstrip. Set on granite plinths are 16, enormous tents, each large enough to encorporate 2 four poster queen size beds and ample room to sit an relax in an armchair after a game drive. However, grand in size the tents maybe, the camp is fairly low key and simple in comparison to its sister camps in the Serengeti and although the staff are friendly and helpful and standards are a little lower, including the food, however it is the only permanent camp in the area.

This element can be managed by a first rate guide but you should be aware that this is no wilderness area.  The Seronera valley is the particular magnet for both game and tourist vehicles, being the bread and butter circuit for many of the large lodges and the objective of much of the daily traffic that churns between the Ngorongoro Highlands and the Serengeti.
