The original migration chasing seasonal camp. Outstanding guides, private vehicle and total flexibilty in game viewing

Guide Price: From: $450 To: $740

Nomad's Serengeti Safari Camp moves into the southwestern area of the Serengeti during April and May, as the southern plains begin to dry up and the wildebeest begin to leave their southern range and head north. This time coincides with the rut - a time characterised by herds of purposeful and demure-looking cow wildebeest trying desparatley to ignore the farcical noise and cavorting of their menfolk.  This is a time when the herds hed through Moru Kopjes in the southwestern Serengeti. Moru is not only a beautiful and unusual little corner of this park, but also somewhere to see the very good resident game, most particularly cats - lion, leopard and even the smaller cats like Caracal - for which this area is known.

This luxury mobile safari camp moves seasonally around the Serengeti ecosystem shadowing the Serengeti wildebeest migration. Serengeti Safari Camp caters for up to 16 people at a time with one of Nomad Tanzania's excellent private vehicle and safari guides as standard for each group.  The camp not only offers one of the best chances of finding the wildebeest migration away from the crowds, but is also superbly comfortable with first class food. It's also one of the best ways to access to some remote and little visited areas of the Serengeti ecosystem that are well out of reach of the permanent safari lodges.   The small crew of 4 - 6 Tanzanians who run the operation are friendly and efficient and look after your every need down to the smallest detail. In cold months you'll even find a hot water bottle in your bed when you turn in.

This camp is all about the migration and moves seasonally to ensure that it's as close as possible to the action, wherever that is.  While there are one or two areas where you can walk in the Serengeti, the principal point here is game driving in the company of one of Nomad's outstanding guides.  The key is the way that Nomad operate their actvities with major emphasis on each person's indvidual interests - something you can only do with a private vehicle.  So while the camp is shared by a maximum of 16 guests at one time, each group, whether you're a couple or a larger group, have a private vehicle and guide throughout the safari. This means you have full flexibility in planning your safari activities with your guide to suit yourselves. Nomad supply lavish picnics to be taken on all-day game drives, so you can choose to stay out all day some times, and return to camp for a lazy lunch and siesta on others.

We had a terrific time. Observing animals all day is really, really fun. The guides were fantastic and we met great people all around.

The game viewing was wonderful at Serengeti and we were amazed by what we saw – on the final evening drive a leopard in a tree came down as he heard the distress call of a dik dik being attacked by a cobra - The leopard was going for the cobra but darkness fell and we had to return to camp so never knew the outcome!

CJ December 2011

Just a note to let you know that our trip to Tanzania was spectacular. We had the best guide who was most knowledgeable and great fun to be with. The tents and yurts were wonderful and the food was delicious. We were blessed with excellent weather and saw every animal possible and plenty of action among the big cats. It was unforgettable and I miss it already.

Serengeti National Park - Central

Central Serengeti offers undeniably good game viewing, but you do need to be prepared for high numbers of tourists in certain areas. This element can be managed by a first rate guide but you should be aware that this is no wilderness area.  The Seronera valley is the particular magnet for both game and tourist vehicles, being the bread and butter circuit for many of the large lodges and the objective of much of the daily traffic that churns between the Ngorongoro Highlands and the Serengeti. Tanzania safaris rival a safari any other country in Africa in terms of sheer wilderness, formidable landscapes and volume of wildlife.  At Natural High, we have travelled all over the country, worked in some of its best Tanzania safari camps and lodges and flown all over as bush pilots so we feel qualified to venture such opinions.
