Serengeti Serena Lodge is the best place to stay in the Serengeti if you are specifically after a lodge safari. Like the rest of Serena Hotels properties this is a well run hotel, with dependable levels of service and food, but not somewhere you will find a particularly "bush" experience.

There are 66 rooms all of which look a bit like those helmets that German officers wore in World War I with spikes in the top. They are in fact comfortable ensuite rooms with comfortable beds, good clean bathrooms and plenty of space.

We don't believe that lodges of this kind offer a particularly interesting experience compared to the small and much more imaginitive camps such as Kusini Camp, Nomad's Serengeti Safari Camp or Klein's Camp and we tend not to use this area of the Serengeti much because of the large numbers of visitors in the area.

There is plenty of resident game to see in the area and when the migration is going through in July this area is bursting with wildebeest. However, you are often accompanied by other vehicles in this part of the park and given how much space there is in the Serengeti it seems a waste not to make the most of it.

Something to note : If you are after a balloon safari, then you need to spend at least one night in this area so as to be ready for the early morning departure.

Serengeti National Park - Central

Central Serengeti offers undeniably good game viewing, but you do need to be prepared for high numbers of tourists in certain areas. This element can be managed by a first rate guide but you should be aware that this is no wilderness area.  The Seronera valley is the particular magnet for both game and tourist vehicles, being the bread and butter circuit for many of the large lodges and the objective of much of the daily traffic that churns between the Ngorongoro Highlands and the Serengeti. Tanzania

Tanzania safaris rival a safari any other country in Africa in terms of sheer wilderness, formidable landscapes and volume of wildlife.  At Natural High, we have travelled all over the country, worked in some of its best Tanzania safari camps and lodges and flown all over as bush pilots so we feel qualified to venture such opinions.
