Good year round game viewing with migration July & Aug

Guide Price: From: $625 To: $950

Grumeti River Camp is a lavish luxury tented camp in the {Serengeti Western Corridor}. A great location as the migration heads accross the Grumeti River heading north and located in an area with good resident game year round. As at {Ngorongoro Crater Lodge}, the degree of luxury and the price will doubtless appear over the top to some people, but there's no doubt that the level of service and originality of this camp make it worth a visit for a couple of nights if you are looking for some pampering.

Grumeti River Camp is set in the shade of riverine trees on an oxbow pool of the Grumeti River in the western corridor of the Serengeti. The Grumeti River is one of the relatively few places in the Serengeti where you can catch up with crocodiles and hippos, and there are quite a few residents that live close to the camp. The thick woodland along the river also attracts a different range of species to those you'll see in the plains like black and white colobus monkeys and some superb birdlife.

Also worth mentioning that camps and game drives in this area can suffer from occasional tsetse issues. This varies hugely and in our opinion is definitely not a reason to miss out either the area or the camp, but we think it's helpful to flag up the issue and do ask us for any latest updates if you're concerned.

Serengeti National Park - the Western Corridor

The Western Corridor is the hotspot in late June and July as the wildebeest migration rolls into town, but it also retains a sizeable resident population of wildebeest - and good general game viewing - year round. This is a funnel shaped piece of land running from the Central Serengeti west to the park boundary near the shore of Lake Victoria. It's an interesting and beautiful area, particularly when you leave the main road - and the Peugot 504 taxis - behind. Read more?
