Game drives in western corridor but out on a limb

Mbalageti Camp sits on top of Mwamvini Hill in the Western Corridor of the Serengeti with fantastic views across the Serengeti plains and the Mbalageti River. This is a good location within the park and, although its slightly on a limb with a minimal network of game driving tracks close to the lodge itself, once you are back near the main park roads, you're never going to be far from some good game viewing.

This is a good mid range option and arguably offers a more interesting experience than staying in one of the large lodges which are the other option at this price bracket. Its a little too big to be particularly long on charm or ambience, but it has plenty to offer in terms of space and facilities and as a comfortable place from which to base your stay in this part of the Serengeti it's fine. One of its best assets is the pool, carved out of rock on the hillside providing 360 degree views of the Serengeti landscape.

The camp has a selection of accomodation, the most basic being standard rooms within the main lodge - decent sized rooms, all with ensuite bathrooms and each having a private balcony. The next step up is the tents, of which there are 24 scattered around the hillside. These are spacious and well spread out ensuring as much privacy as possible. Each thatched tent has its own bathroom and most of them have great views. At the top there are 2 luxury suites for those wishing to have a bit more space and comfort.

Serengeti National Park - the Western Corridor

The Western Corridor is the hotspot in late June and July as the wildebeest migration rolls into town, but it also retains a sizeable resident population of wildebeest - and good general game viewing - year round. This is a funnel shaped piece of land running from the Central Serengeti west to the park boundary near the shore of Lake Victoria. It's an interesting and beautiful area, particularly when you leave the main road - and the Peugot 504 taxis - behind. Read more?
