Our approach with the Light Mobile Camp has been to emphasize the ingredients that give a safari its unique flavour - an excellent guide, access to the best areas, great food and a comfortable camp – while minimizing the cost on things that most people can do with out in the context of a safari…namely the bling. This camp is aimed squarely at folks who are after an outstanding wilderness experience that is both real and affordable. It was specifically to offer an alternative to staying in public campsites in busy areas on a budget camping safari, or standing in buffet lines on a lodge-based safari. Light mobile camping makes it possible to have a remote, private, comfortable and stylish bush experience. Take a look at a short video to find out more about this camp.
At the heart of the camp is its lightness of touch – it can move to be in the right place at the right time, and it’s able to come and go with minimal impact on the exceptional areas we access with it. Lighting is solar powered, the camp uses its own water filtration plant for drinking water, and cooking is done over coconut husk bio-bricks instead of charcoal. Food, as we all know, matters. At this camp you can expect excellent meals, prepared on site by your chef, using local ingredients sourced at local markets. Wherever possile, dining is en plein air and at night the canopy of stars is vastly superior to even the most elaborate of dining rooms.
While light enough to be easily mobile, your tent is spacious with a floor area of 2.5 x 2.5 metres and 2 metres high. It comes with real beds, 100% cotton bedding; duvets, sheets and pillow covers. Good quality duvet inners, with an additional fleece blanket provided. You'll also find bed side tables, solar reading lights and a solar over-head light. Outside the tent you'll find a hand basin and mirror, two chairs and even a ground sheet to make a comfortable veranda. Best of all, the camp crew will make up the tent every day.
What the Light Mobile Camp is not. This isn’t a camp that you share with other people. We believe that for a few nights on a safari guests should have the opportunity to be themselves in the bush. A place where one doesn’t need to sit in a dining room or ‘mingle’ with other people. It is a rare pleasure to be on your own for a while, to decide when to get up, when to eat and to be as quiet or loud as you like in your own private camp. But…it is NOT a basic bush camp. Four course meals, sit down dinners, pre dinner snacks, 100% cotton bedding and hot showers all ensure that you wont feel like you’re roughing it.
