The main reason for most people to come to Uganda is to see the mountain gorillas in the Impenetrable Forest.  Fortunately the 'impenetrable' bit does not entirely live up to its name, but it is usually a pretty stiff hike to find the gorillas.  This improbably steep mountain rainforest is home to almost half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas. It is also one Africa’s most ancient habitats surviving through the last Ice Age (12,000-18,000 years ago).

Not only are there gorillas, but forest elephant, eleven different primates, African golden cat, rare giant forest hog, birds galore, colourful insects and butterflies. This is a true rainforest with a fairly impressive rainfall of upto 2.5 metres a year!
