"Rustic" is one of those words bandied about so much that's difficult to know what it means anymore. Crocodile River Camp is found in an area devoid of roads and built at the start of each season using natural materials. Everything in camp has to come in across the Luangwa River by boat and then by porter. The chalets are all open and overlook an old oxbow of the main river where a wide variety of wildlife appears from the bush to drink. It is the epitome of rustic.
Crocodile and its sister camp, Chikoko, are walking camps from which you can explore this remote and rich area of the South Luangwa National Park on your own two pins. An expert guide and armed scout provide protection and detailed insight into this beautiful area while you walk from the main camp, Tafika, to spend a few nights here. The bush takes on a different aspect when seen from on foot and it is the details that you miss from a vehicle that you can enjoy, along with the peace and sounds of nature.
For those seeking the essence of the bush experience, there are few better places. The camp remains comfortable despite its simplicity and you will be cared for and fed well by an experienced team of very friendly staff. Morning and late afternoon walks around the open pans, wooded groves and down to the river provide just one opportunity to view wildife. During the middle of the day, poised with a cold drink and binoculars on the packed-earth verandah, you can see all sorts of things just happening around you...
