Predominatly walking safaris with some game drives

Chamilandu is part of a series of bushcamps dedicated to exploring the southern reaches of the South Luangwa primarily on foot.  Some clever architect has seen fit to raise the entire camp on high wooden platforms to make the most out of a dramatic view across the Luangwa River and the scenic knuckles of the Chindeni Hills beyond. Consisting of just four open-air chalets, Chamilandu makes for an intimate and relaxed spot with a contemporary bush style.  The walls of the showers are cut low enough to afford a pretty cool view, making it even more difficult to drag yourself out of the bathroom than usual.

Chamilandu is in a beautiful part of the park with some really great walking through areas like the Zebra Pans which almost look like English park land, (only incongruously filled with African animals).  Drives are offered here, normally as an afternoon/sundowner/nigh-drive activity.  There is a great deal to see, although the game may not be as abundant as in the Mfuwe area, so it does make for good walking.

It is possible to link a number of the other bushcamps such as Kapamba, Bilimungwe and Chindeni where you walk from camp to camp, staying a few nights in each to explore the immediate area.

Chamilandu has been styled to allow for some serious pinache and comfort in the bush, so don't expect rustic.  It is ideal for those that can appreciate great food and service delivered in a characteristically personal and informal way.

South Luangwa National Park

The Luangwa Valley is probably Zambia's best known wildlife area. As well as having very good all-round game, Luangwa is somewhere that has gained a well deserved reputation for walking safaris, though there is a great deal more to do above and beyond. The park consists of large amounts of woodland; miombo interspersed with grass lands in the north of the park and large stands of mature ebony forming deep shade along the banks of the river.
