A Robinson Crusoe-on-the-Luangwa type feel

Island Bushcamp is the sister camp to Kafunta River Lodge (a two hour game drive north).  Neatly positioned in a remote southern part of the park, Island Bushcamp is the essence of the Zambian experience.  Built from locally available reeds and wood, and kept simple, this kind of camp is where you go to shrug off your "civilised" trappings, and wiggle your toes in the river-sand as you watch the sun set over the river, cold beer in hand.  The camp is plumbed in, though, and so you will still have the benefit of a hot shower and flush loo.

With only five raised bush huts, the camp has a nice intimate feel and lends itself to exploratory walks and birding, though you can still enjoy game drives too.

Island Bushcamp is seasonal - open for only five months of the year between June and the end of October.

South Luangwa National Park

The Luangwa Valley is probably Zambia's best known wildlife area. As well as having very good all-round game, Luangwa is somewhere that has gained a well deserved reputation for walking safaris, though there is a great deal more to do above and beyond. The park consists of large amounts of woodland; miombo interspersed with grass lands in the north of the park and large stands of mature ebony forming deep shade along the banks of the river.
