Tena Tena

One of the loveliest tented camps in Luangwa with access to great wildlife and birding

Tena Tena lies at the southern end of the Nsefu sector of South Luangwa National Park, has a well deserved reputation as one of Africa's most authentic small bush camps. Robin and Jo Pope and their team have worked hard over the years to create a style of camp which is rich in atmosphere, but purposefully modest in design, allowing guests to focus predominantly on what goes on outside the camp rather than overbearing luxury within it.

That said guests here want for little and as a bush experience there are few places that can rival the combination of Robin Pope's superb guides, the warmth and professionalism of the staff and the proximity to nature that you feel at Tena Tena. Tena Tena is placed on a bend in the Luangwa River, with each of the 6 tents located under a shady tree looking out over the river or lagoon. As the dry season progresses, game is increasingly drawn to the last remaining patches of water to drink and game viewing in the immediate area of Tena Tena is often very good.

The tents themselves lie in the deep shade of thatched bandas. From the outside, the rather beautiful mud walls of the ensuite bathrooms, built in local style, give no clue as to the comforts that lie within. The camp is best know for the walks which Robin Pope has pioneered in the area, but offers a mixture of game drives, walks and night drives, all lead by highly knowledgeable and entertaining guides

South Luangwa National Park

The Luangwa Valley is probably Zambia's best known wildlife area. As well as having very good all-round game, Luangwa is somewhere that has gained a well deserved reputation for walking safaris, though there is a great deal more to do above and beyond. The park consists of large amounts of woodland; miombo interspersed with grass lands in the north of the park and large stands of mature ebony forming deep shade along the banks of the river. Zambia

Zambia has made a name for itself in the last ten years, as a high quality wildlife destination and one that is particularly good for walking safaris.  Simple, but outstanding bushcamps, excellent local guides, beautiful riverine scenery and varied game and birdlife are the trademarks of a safari in Zambia.
