How can I get off the beaten track in Rajasthan?
Each of our journeys in India is tailor-made to suit your own interests, preferred style of accommodation, pace of travel and budget. The following is a suggestion of how a trip might look if you’d like to get to some parts of rural Rajasthan and explore off the beaten track.
Drive to Bundi. You could choose to stop and visit the sprawling Chittorgarh fort on the way.
Spend a day or two in the laid back little town of Bundi. Investigate the ruined palace and fort, market and bazaar.
Continue to Shahpura and stay at an 18th century garden estate. Explore the orchard and farm, hike to a tribal temple, discover a step well and have a pair of mojari leather shoes made for you.
Drive to Chhatra Sagar. From your luxury tent on the top of a dam go bird watching on the lake, join the family landowners on a visit to the village or on a nature walk.
Head to Deogarh and spend the next couple of nights at this delightful palace above the sprawling village. Take a ride through the hills on a local train, on horseback, or in a classic car and browse the shops in the friendly bazaar.
Return to Udaipur and fly to Mumbai (Bombay) for your onward flight.
