What are the best areas to visit in Zambia
Like all holidays, there is no one size fits all for holidays to Zambia, although there are of course general recommendations. A good starting point for a Zambian safari would include the {Victoria Falls}, {Lower Zambezi} and {South Luangwa} National Park. The time you spend in each area does depend on your particular interests, available time and budget.
For those with a particular wish to escape to far flung places, the {North Luangwa} is wonderful if you love to walk. Game here is good with an abundance of plains game, associated predators (including large populations of lion) and birds. The inaccessibility by vehicle, and consequent focus on walking is what defines the North Luangwa and so it is here that you should head if walking in untouched bush is your thing.
The {Kafue} is also remote and is off the main circuit. Diverse eco-systems ranging from papyrus swamp, floodplains, miombo woodland and riverine forest host concentrations of plains game, including a few rarities (oribi, roan, Lichtenstein's hartebeest). Lion are particularly abundant here, while there is the opportunity to see wild dog and cheetah if you keep your eyes peeled. This is also an area that features on birdwatching trips for the range and number of species including a few tick-worthy "tweets".
{Bangweulu} and {Kasanka} are more remote still but are well worth the trip for those with specialist interests. Bangweulu is particularly notable for its birdlife, especially shoebill storks. Kasanka is also a good spot for avid birders and those interested in bats - there are literally millions of straw-coloured fruitbats. Kasanka has few predators but boasts a healthy population of black lechwe, sitatunga, elephant, buffalo and a range of other plains game. The National Park is privately managed by a Trust which relies solely on tourism revenue. There is not much choice of accommodation but the standard is reasonable.
