FAQs

Where are the best game areas in Zambia?

The {South Luangwa} and {Lower Zambezi} are good bets as far as game viewing is concerned.  In the dry season, game concentrates on the lush grass of the flood plains on the banks of the respective rivers that feed both parks.  The Lower Zambezi is inaccessible during the rains and so is generally closed from December to early June, while certain camps in the South Luangwa stay open throughout the year.  If you are looking for a good wildlife hit, you can't really go wrong combining these two camps in your itinerary.

The {North Luangwa} has great game and is primarily a walking destination.  So, if remoteness and avoiding a vehicle is a priority, it is worth travelling that little bit further to see this park.  Remember though that because you are on your two pins, you may not see the volume of game that you might in some of the other parks.

{Kafue National Park} is a vast park with certain areas which are good for game.  It has diverse habitats and healthy herbivore and consequently predator populations.  It is the only place in Zambia where you may see cheetah, and there is a good chance of seeing lion, leopard and wild dog.  The Busanga Plains is currently a safe bet in terms of quality of wildlife.
