Where to go in Linyanti?
The Linyanti region incorporates the Linyanti River, the Selinda Spillway and the Kwando to the west.
Linyanti is the area along the river bearing the same name where Botswana meets the border of Namibia’s eastern Caprivi Strip. Lush and green, the Linyanti is the next permanent water supply north of the Delta. During the dry month herds of elephant, zebra and wildebeest migrate from their summer pastures in the Delta. The Linyanti region is comprised largely of a game reserve of 275,000 acres, containing a small handful of camps. Have a look at {Duma Tau} or for a serious treat, {Kings Pool} for places to stay.
Selinda lies just west of the Linyanti and includes the Selinda Channel which erratically flows between the Linyanti and Okavango Delta. The area is characterised by wide open plains and seasonal marshes with stands of borassus palm. The Selinda Reserve comprises over 300,000 acres with only two small luxury camps, so it is a very exclusive spot. Activities here are mainly by vehicle although there is a canoe trail and short walks available. The area is known for elephant, lion (some of them that enjoy a spot of hippo now and then), buffalo and giraffe. It’s also a good place to see wild dog and cheetah in addition to numerous birds. {Selinda Camp} and the rather more opulent {Zarafa} are the only two options in this area.
Kwando lies further west, tucked into the angle of the Caprivi Strip. A private reserve with only a few camps, the Kwando offers guests exclusivity without the luxury of some of the other camps in this region. This is a good wildlife area with the mixed water/savannah habitats of the Linyanti region. Wild dog, lion, cheetah, elephant, buffalo and hippo are some of the headline acts. We like {Lagoon Camp} here.
